MDEC celebrates its first ever ASDA Graduation Demo Day

ASDA Participants gained precious insight regarding data analytics

MDEC held its Graduation Demo Day for ASDA on March 28, 2018. 19 startups from all over ASEAN took part in the six-month long course, ASDA, also known as the MDEC ASEAN Data Startup Accelerator program. MDEC partnered up with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) based in the UK.

Ir. Dr. Karl Ng, MDEC’s Director of Data Economy says the startups have developed very innovative data driven solutions that fulfil the demands of the digital markets.

"We are proud to know that many of them were successful in getting awards, new sources of funds as well as getting large clients in their area of work," he added

Saravana, CTO of VinAsia mentioned that he had little knowledge of the data economy or the fact that data can be capitalized prior to commencement of the accelerator program.

"Going through this program has made us realize that data is as valuable as gold," he said.

Julie Ng, VinAsia’s CEO shared her appreciation as the graduation day also gives startups the ability to pitch themselves to the relevant investors that were present.

Gita Nofieka, Co-Founder of TuneMap says she would recommend the program to any of her friends with a startup and a data driven base, as ASDA is able to provide insight on how the data can be used to benefit their businesses.

Dato’ Ng Wan Peng, MDEC’s COO states that data analytics’ next move is to enlist the help of artificial intelligence to assist in creating solutions while also helping businesses to adapt to the new technology in order to progress.
