Making 'Malaysia Truly Digital!'

The past week, MDEC's Chief Executive Officer Datuk Yasmin Mahmood has been travelling through different parts of Malaysia.

"While it can be exhausting, it was, and is, extremely rewarding," said Datuk Yasmin in a Facebook post."I travelled to quite a few places, from Banting in Selangor to Kota Belud in Sabah, all for the purpose of sharing MDEC’s vision, the digital future. And it was in my travels I saw the potential in, what we can say, our human capital."

"The drive and passion, and the resilience; Malaysians are far better people then we gave them credit for," she said. "Those Mak Cik’s in rural backwater areas, that unemployed young man with the kapchai… All of them have the desire to succeed. Unfortunately, many do not see - or know about - the opportunities that are available. And for this fact, I am grateful to be part of MDEC."

"To have the opportunity to make a difference is an honour," said Datuk Yasmin, adding. "One thing everyone can agree on is that the government’s effort and focus on digitalising Malaysia is nothing short of laudable. Have we done enough? No. Of course not. Enough is never enough. We are not trying to survive in the digital world, we want to thrive in it. But can our efforts be discounted? If you do, it would be a shame."

Disruptive changes are starting to sweep Southeast Asia, and we are helping Malaysia to become ready for the 4th Industrial Revolution. To prepare the rakyat, we have been planting the #YouCanDuit digital seeds – of eRezeki and eUsahawan - all over the country, and in the past month alone, we have been in Ipoh, Sungai Petani, Seremban, and many other places.

"The progress we have made is substantial and steady. What we need now, however, is the support of not only industry players, but also the people. All facets of our society, regardless of backgrounds, need to come together to drive forward our vision of a fully integrated, digital nation. In how we learn, socialize, do business… The changes can be felt. Now, let’s keep pushing."

She added: "Probably Malaysia's most popular slogan for several years was Tourism Malaysia's ‘Malaysia Truly Asia.’ Let’s now make it ‘Malaysia Truly Digital’!"
