Pulling out all stops to reduce road accidents

Within a few years, road accidents will be one of the most common causes of injury and deaths. With the number of road fatalities and people injured as a result of road accidents increasing rapidly, the socioeconomic and health impacts will be substantial. However, even serious events can be prevented by systematic and evidence-based interventions. The ISO 39001:2012 "Road Traffic Safety Management Systems - Requirements with guidance for use" provides a tool to help organizations reduce, and ultimately eliminate, the incidence and risk of death and serious injury resulting from road traffic accidents. It is applicable to public and private organizations that interact with road traffic system. Organizations that have implemented management systems such as ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 can relatively easily integrate the requirements of ISO 39001 into their existing systems.
